Hi, my name is Sally Elstrodt and I am the Executive Director of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Tidewater, Virginia Chapter. Along with the families and friends of the Tidewater Chapter, we would like to welcome you to our website.

The website will provide you access to important information regarding our chapter and the events being held throughout the year including our Walk to Cure Diabetes and The Hope Gala.

The JDRF Tidewater Chapter covers the Hampton Roads community and parts of North Carolina including Williamsburg, Isle of Wight and Surry through King George, the Virginia Eastern Shore, and the Southside (Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake and Suffolk). Approximately 8% of this community of over two million residents, are impacted directly by diabetes. Unfortunately, the number of cases continues to grow.

JDRF is the leading charitable funder and advocate of juvenile (type 1) diabetes research worldwide. JDRF was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with insulin dependent diabetes. Today, the advocacy network of JDRF volunteers have been the driving force behind the growth to more than 100 Chapters, Branches, and Affiliates worldwide who are dedicated to the mission to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research, advocacy and family network outreach programs.  

JDRF is a non-profit organization and is the single largest private contributor of funds used for diabetes research.  Over eighty cents of every dollar raised is contributed directly towards this research.  The Tidewater Chapter is in place to support our research goals as well as extend a helping hand in our community to those who have been impacted by Type 1 diabetes through sharing, helping, listening, and providing new friendships with people who understand the fears, questions, and concerns regarding diabetes.
